Teen Shares About Grandmother Receiving Rs 80 Lakh In School, Faces Extortion, Blackmail From Cybercriminals

A Gurugram teen was blackmailed into transferring Rs 80 lakh after mentioning her grandmother's bank account to a friend.

A casual chat by a Gurugram teen with her schoolmate got her trapped in an extortion racket as she was blackmailed into transferring Rs 80 lakh or her morphed images would be circulated online. 

The girl had spoken about her grandmother receiving Rs 80 lakh in her bank account after which she was threatened by some students from class 10th. They blackmailed to share her morphed images if she did not transfer the money which they demanded in instalments, reported The Times of India. 

Six accused have been arrested in connection with the case which began in February last year.

Casual Chat Turns Into Nightmare 

It all started when the 15-year-old girl mentioned her grandmother's bank account to a friend. The word got around, like it does in a school, and reached a boy in class 10th. 

The boy mentioned it during a conversation with his elder brother outside school who cooked up the plot and discussed it with his group of friends. 

Sumit Kataria (20) befriended the class 9th girl on social media and managed to lay his hands on her private photos, which he allegedly morphed. 

The blackmailers also managed to get her phone number sent her the photos and threatened to circulate them if she did not meet their demands.

Arrest And Investigation 

Every few weeks, the blackmailers would return with a fresh demand which continued for over eight months. The girl withdrew Rs 80 lakh in batches from her grandmother's account, which she had access to. She would be given account numbers to which the money was being transferred.

Once the bank account ran dry, one of the blackmailers, Naveen Kumar reached her tuition class and threatened her. It was then that the girl's teacher noticed her distress and found out about the entire plot. The teacher informed the girl's family who went to the police. 

The probe began last December and six people have been arrested with the latest to be of Naveen (28) who was nabbed on Tuesday. Cops have recovered Rs 5 lakh and a debit card from him. 

The girl is a student in a private school in Gurugram and her father works in Delhi. Her 75-year-old grandmother said that she had received Rs 80 lakh in her bank account from a land sale.
