Couple Die By Suicide By Consuming Poison, Children Hospitalised In Gujarat’s Sabarkantha

A man and his wife died after allegedly consuming poison, along with their three teenage children, in Vadali, Gujarat. The three children survived and are still under treatment.

A man and his wife died after allegedly consuming a poisonous substance, along with their three teenage children, in a suspected suicide attempt in Gujarat’s Sabarkantha district.

According to PTI, the exact reason behind the incident, which took place in Vadali town, hasn’t come to light.

On Saturday morning, the couple, their two sons and a daughter started vomiting. Seeing their condition, the neighbours grew worried and called an ambulance. The family was rushed to a private hospital for treatment, an official from Vadali police station told PTI.

"From there, they were referred to the civil hospital in Himmatnagar around the afternoon. The couple later died during treatment," he said.

The Vadali police have registered a case of accidental death and are probing the circumstances that led to the suspected mass suicide attempt.

The deceased have been identified as Vinu Sagar, 42, and his wife Kokilaben, 40. According to a Times Now report, Vinu Sagar passed away on Saturday evening, while Kokilaben succumbed to the poisoning early Sunday morning. Their three children—a 19-year-old daughter and two sons aged 17 and 18—are currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

In February, a family of four was found dead in their apartment in Mysuru, Karnataka, under suspicious circumstances. According to India Today, the incident occurred in Mysuru’s Visvesvaraya Nagar. Police suspect that the man poisoned his family members before taking his own life.

The deceased were identified as 45-year-old Chetan, his 62-year-old mother Priyamvada, his 15-year-old son Kushal and his 43-year-old wife Rupali.

As per the report, Chetan had called his brother, Bharat, to tell him that the whole family was going to die by suicide before disconnecting the call. Following this phone call, Bharat quickly called Chetan’s in-laws. However, by the time Chetan’s mother-in-law arrived, the family had already died.
