What The Police Probe Says

According to police, the German woman had been touring the city on that day along with her German friend and a few others from her country. She had arrived in Hyderabad on March 4 to meet a friend with whom she had studied in Germany a couple of years ago.

On Monday, she was offered lift by the driver during their tour. After dropping off the other passengers, the driver proceeded to drive her to the airport. However, before reaching Mamidipally area on the outskirts of the city, he stopped the vehicle at an isolated location, where he allegedly raped the woman and fled the scene.

Her German friend had also gotten down, but she went in the car to Mamidipally along with the driver to take some pictures at around 7:30 PM, the complaint said, as reported by PTI.

She later informed her friend that she had been raped by the driver.

The woman managed to contact the police and lodged a complaint at the Pahadishareef police station.

According to a report by Times Of India, there were rumours that the woman had been gang-raped, but the police dismissed these claims, confirming that it was the driver who assaulted her.

In another incident last month, an Israeli tourist and a homestay owner were allegedly gang-raped by three men in Karnataka. The incident took place when the victims were stargazing on the serene banks of a canal in Koppal with three other travellers.

The accused had even pushed the three travellers into the canal before assaulting the women. While two of them managed to swim out, one traveller from Odisha drowned.
