FIR Against Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina, Others In Assam For 'Promoting Obscenity'

The FIR has been registered against Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Makhija, Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina and others for "promoting obscenity and engaging in vulgar discussion".

An FIR has been registered against YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, social media influencer Apoorva Makhija, comedian Samay Raina and others in Guwahati for promoting obscenity and vulgar discussion, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Monday. 

CM Himanta Sarma said the FIR has been registered against Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Makhija, Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina and others for "promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit and vulgar discussion" in 'India's Got Latent' show.

The latest FIR comes amid a massive row after influencer Ranveer Allahbadia's distasteful comment on parents and sex that has received criticism from across the spectrum. 

"Today @GuwahatiPol has registered an FIR against against certain Youtubers and social Influencers, namely 1. Shri Ashish Chanchlani 2. Shri Jaspreet Singh 3. Shri Apoorva Makhija 4. Shri Ranveer Allahbadia 5. Shri Samay Raina and others for promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit and vulgar discussion in a show titled ' India's Got Latent'," Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a post on X.

"Guwahati Crime Branch has registered a case vide Cyber PS case no 03/2025 under sections - 79/95/294/296 of BNS 2023 read witb Sec 67 of IT Act, 2000, read with Section 4/7 of Cinematograph Act 1952 read with Section 4/6 of ⁠Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986," the post added.

The fresh FIR comes after a complaint was filed earlier on Monday against Ranveer Allahabadia, Apoorva Makhija, Samay Raina, and the organisers of the show India’s Got Latent for Ranveer's vulgar remarks on the show. The complaint, submitted to the Mumbai Commissioner and the Maharashtra Women’s Commission, alleges the use of abusive language on the show and calls for strict action against the accused.

After the row, several politicians across parties criticized the influencer's remark and called for action. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that though he hasn't seen the clip in question but cautioned people about the limits of freedom of speech.

"Everyone has the freedom of speech but our freedom ends when we encroach upon the freedom of others... In our society, we have made some rules, it is absolutely wrong if someone violates them. Action should be taken against them," Fadnavis told reporters.

Ranveer Allahbadia Issues Apology

Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known as Beer Biceps, issued an unconditional apology and said he has asked the show creators to remove the controversial segment.

"My comment wasn’t just inappropriate, it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my forte. Just here to say sorry... Many of you asked if this is how I wish to use my platform.... Family is the last thing that I would ever disrespect. Need to use this platform better and that's been my learning from this whole experience. I promise to just get better... I hope you can forgive me as a human being," he said in a video statement on X.
