Maharashtra News: Eight women labourers were killed and three others injured after a speeding truck rammed into a tempo on the Nagpur-Mumbai Expressway in Maharashtra’s Jalna district on Wednesday. A police official said that there were 11 people in the tempo, including the driver. “Just as the vehicle was about to move, a speeding truck heading towards Mumbai hit it from behind near Kadwanchi village,” the officer said. Seven women died on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries at a government hospital in Jalna.

Victims Identified

The deceased have been identified as Alkabai Admane (45), Lakshmibai Madan (35), Meena Admane (45), Kanchan Admane (50), Tarabai Chaudhary (60), Kadubai Madan (55) and Suman Admane (70), all residents of Jalna tehsil. The identity of the eighth woman is yet to be confirmed. The three injured persons are currently undergoing treatment in hospital.

Police have arrested the truck driver and registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed grief over the incident, calling it extremely unfortunate, and announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each for the families of the deceased.
