‘Glad I Didn’t End Up Like Raja Raghuvanshi’: UP Man After Wife Elopes 9 Days After Marriage

In Budaun, UP, a bride eloped with her lover shortly after her wedding. The groom, Sunil, filed a missing person report, but the bride returned to declare her love for another.

In Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun district, a 20-year-old woman, who was recently married, left her husband and eloped with her lover less than a month after the wedding. The incident took place in Bisauli town and has since caught attention for the groom’s rather composed reaction.

According to police officials, the woman got married to Sunil, 23, on May 17 and stayed at her in-laws’ home for only nine days. She then left for her maternal home but did not return, news agency PTI reported. After ten days, Sunil filed a missing complaint when she could not be reached.

To everyone’s surprise, the young bride turned up at the police station on Monday, declaring in front of officers and family members that she wished to live with her lover instead.

Families Reach Mutual Agreement, No Legal Action Taken

Officials from the local Bisauli police station, including Station House Officer (SHO) Harendra Singh, facilitated a peaceful settlement between the two families. As part of the resolution, both parties agreed to return wedding gifts, including jewellery and household items. No further legal action was initiated by either side.

“The bride insisted she wanted to live with her lover. After all items were exchanged and documented, she left the police station with him. The groom’s family returned home. No further legal action has been requested,” SHO Singh told the media, as quoted by PTI.

Radha, the groom’s sister-in-law, shared, “She stayed with us for just eight days. After she left, she ran away with her lover from the same village. We only asked for our gifts to be returned, and the matter is now settled.”

Groom Draws Parallel With Honeymoon Murder Case

Sunil, the groom, reacted calmly and even with relief. Referring to a shocking recent murder case that took place in Meghalaya, he said, “I had planned to take her to Nainital for our honeymoon. But if she wants to be with her lover, I’m happy too. At least I’m glad I didn’t end up like Raja Raghuvanshi. Now all three of us are happy, she found love, and my life didn’t get ruined.”

Sunil’s reference was to the murder of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, who was allegedly killed during his honeymoon in Meghalaya. Raja’s body was recovered on June 2 from a gorge near Weisawdong Falls. His wife, Sonam, her alleged lover, and three contract killers were later arrested for plotting and executing the crime.
