Delhi Police will strictly enforce traffic rules starting September 1 and citizens will be involved in the crackdown on traffic rule violations.

Traffic Rules Violation In Delhi: The Delhi Police is ready to take strict action against those who violate traffic rules. For this, an action plan has also been formulated by the traffic police, which will involve public participation. The scheme seeks to incentivise tipping off the police about infractions. People can win up to Rs 50,000 by sending correct information about rule violations to the traffic police.

According to a The Hindu report, the Delhi Traffic Police recorded a 32% increase in stop-line violations between January and June this year compared to the same period in 2023. Moreover, nearly 20,000 people were booked for permit violations till mid-July, according to a PTI report. This is almost 45% more than what was reported the corresponding period of 2023.

Traffic Prahari App Relaunch

The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, VK Saxena, has instructed the traffic police to relaunch the 'Traffic Sentinel' mobile app as 'Traffic Prahari' app. The app will be launched for Delhi residents on September 1 to improve the traffic system in Delhi. Public participation will also increase under this scheme.

Through the Traffic Prahari app, Delhi residents will be able to inform the Delhi Police about violations of traffic rules. For this, Delhi Police has made a provision of awarding up to Rs 50,000 to the person who provides correct information. Under this initiative of Delhi Police, the top four 'informers' will be chosen for the prize money every month.

Delhi Police will release the list of the four best complainants every month, who will get rewards of Rs 50,000, Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000, and Rs 10,000.

The Traffic Prahari app can be downloaded for both Android and iOS. To register a report through this app, you will have to register your mobile number on the app. You will have to provide all necessary information, such as the type of violation, photos and videos of the traffic violations, the date, time, and place of occurrence, and the registration plate number. to register the report. After this, the traffic police will verify the report sent by the complainant.

Earlier in August, Delhi Lieutenant-Governor VK Saxena ordered the Delhi Police, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, and the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) to develop a mobile app to deal with the menace of illegal parking.
