Retired Scientist & Wife Held Hostage At Delhi Home by 'Courier Boys', Robbed Of Rs 2 Crore

Both the husband and wife were taken to the hospital for medical examination and further probe was initiated. The police said at least six teams had been formed to identify the accused and nab them.

A retired scientist and his elderly wife were held hostage in their house and robbed of cash and jewellery worth about Rs 2 crore in Rohini's Prashant Vihar area. Shubu Singh and his wife Nirmala were in their home in F Block of Prashant Vihar when two men entered posing as "courier boys" on Friday.

After entering the house, they held Shibu and his wife Nirmala hostage at gunpoint, a police officer said. When Singh resisted, the accused also assaulted him. The former scientists told the police that the accused decamped away with cash and jewellery worth Rs 2 crore from his house.

Ex-Scientist's Son Called The Police

The retired scientist informed about the incident to his son, who made a PCR call to the police at 2.30 pm. According to a senior police officer, a team reached the house and collected evidence from the spot.

Both the husband and wife were taken to the hospital for medical examination and further probe was initiated. The police said at least six teams had been formed to identify the accused and nab them.

"The way the incident has happened, the police suspect the role of some insider or someone known to the family members," the officer said.

The CCTV footage has been collected and statements of neighbours and other family members have been recorded. Further investigation is ongoing, the police said.

The incident comes days after two men attacked a Delhi Police sub-inspector during his morning walk. SI Amit Kumar, a resident of Dwarka, was taking a stroll in his neighbourhood last Sunday when two men on a motorcycle zoomed past him. One of them caught hold of his gold chain and ran away. The officer is posted at the office of the joint commissioner of police.

Kumar found a small piece of the broken chain when he returned to the spot. A case was registered under section 304(2) (snatching) of the BNS.
