Heavy Rain Lashes Delhi Leading To Waterlogging; Flight Ops Affected

Heavy rain caused waterlogging in several areas of Delhi, including Dwarka Underpass, South Extension Ring Road, Minto Road, RK Puram, and Lajpat Nagar.

Delhiites woke up to heavy rain on Friday, which led to waterlogging in several areas. Dwarka Underpass, South Extension Ring Road, Minto Road, RK Puram, and Lajpat Nagar were some of the areas that experienced waterlogging due to the rain.

Additionally, a metal structure collapsed at Terminal-3, Delhi Airport as heavy downpour continued overnight on Friday.

The India Meteorological Department issued an alert for severe weather in the city given the heavy shower. The weather department alerted that the inclement weather condition is expected to result in the uprooting of trees and damage to standing crops.

It also said that the heavy shower is expected to damage power and communication lines due to the breakage of branches and partial damage to vulnerable structures. The weather department was further alarmed that the rain could lead to minor damage to kutcha houses/walls and huts.

IMD suggested that the residents monitor the weather for worsening conditions, stay indoors, and avoid travel.

Delhi Airport Issues Advisory As Flights Impacted

In view of the heavy rain, Delhi Airport said that some flights have been impacted and the on-ground teams are working to improve the situation.

"Due to inclement weather conditions and thunderstorms in Delhi, some flights have been impacted at Delhi Airport," the airport said in a post on X.

It further requested the passengers to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information. According to ANI, quoting Airport sources, one flight has been diverted to Ahmedabad and two flights to Jaipur while many other flights have been delayed.

Airlines including IndiGo and Air India also issued a similar advisory recommending passengers to check flight status and plan to leave a little early for the airport.

"A thunderstorm has been forecast in Dehli, and changing weather conditions may affect flight schedules to and from the city," stated IndiGo in a post on X.

"Thunderstorms and gusty winds have affected flight operations in parts of Northern India. Some of our flights to and from Delhi are being delayed, which is likely to impact our overall flight schedule. We are doing our best to minimise disruptions," said Air India on X.
