Chennai Man Gets 20 Yrs In Jail For Sexually Assaulting Minor Stepdaughter

The man repeatedly abused the minor girl in the absence of her mother. He threatened to harm her and her three sisters if she told her mother about the abuse.

Chennai: A 38-year-old man on Friday was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment by a special court for POCSO cases after he was found guilt of sexually assaulting his 13-year-old stepdaughter in Chennai. 

The man repeatedly abused the minor girl in the absence of her mother. He threatened to harm her and her three sisters if she told her mother about the abuse. Times Of India reported.

The abuse faced by the girl was finally stopped after a neighbour spotted him assaulting her on the terrace of their house in November 2023. The neighbour then alerted the girl's mother about it.

The mother then confronted the girl, who then revealed everything about what she had been facing and how her stepfather had been assaulting her for months. 

A complaint was filed by the minor's mother against her husband. He was booked under sections of the POCSO Act and arrested by the police. 

According to special public prosector S Anita, the statements of both, the victim and the eyewitness matched precisel during the trial. Based on the evidence, the man was convicted by judge M Rajalakshmi. The Tamil Nadu government has also been directed to provide the victim with a compensation of Rs 7 lakh, the report noted.

Arunachal Man Sentenced To Death For Sexually Assaulting 21 Children In Hostel

A special POCSO court in Arunachal Pradesh's Yupia on Thursday sentenced a man to death for sexually assaulting 21 children, including 15 girls, at a residential school. Two others were also sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment each for their involvement in the case.

The prime accused, Yumken Bagra, was the warden of the hostel at Karo Government Residential School in Arunachal's Shi-Yomi district. He sexually assaulted the 21, aged between 6 and 15 years, between 2019 and 2022, news agency PTI reported.

Co-accused Marbom Ngomdir was a Hindi teacher, while the other Singtun Yorpen was former headmaster of the school.

SP Rohit Rajbir Singh said that Bagra was convicted under Sections 328 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as well as Sections 6, 10, and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

"He was sentenced to death due to the severity of his crimes," the SP said.
