Chennai, Coimbatore Announce Power Cuts On July 18: Know Full Schedule & Timings
TANGEDCO announced power cuts on July 18 in Chennai and Coimbatore to carry out maintenance works.

Several areas in Chennai and Coimbatore will experience scheduled power cuts on Thursday, July 18, as Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) undertakes maintenance operations on substations and feeders.
Chennai Power Cut
In Chennai, power will be disrupted from 9 AM to 2 PM in Besant Nagar, specifically affecting:
- Gangai Street
- Appar Street
- Arundale Beach Road
- Tiger Varadhachari Road
- Coastal Road
- Thirumurugan Street
- Kaveri Street
- Thidir Nagar
- Vaigai Street
- Rukkumani Road
TANGEDCO stated that the power cut in these areas is necessitated by feeder and structure maintenance work at the Besant Nagar 33 KV substation.
Coimbatore Power Cut
In Coimbatore, power shutdowns will occur between 9 AM and 5 PM in the following locations:
Pappanaicken Palayam Area: Burani Colony, Avarampalayam, Ganesh Nagar, Kamadenu Nagar, Nava India Road, Ganapathy Bus Stand, Siddhapudur, Pazhayur, P.N. Palayam, GKNM Hospital, Alamu Nagar, Ramakrishna Hospital, and Kalyana Mandapam surroundings.
Maddampalayam Region: Bethapuram, Thannerpanthal, Kottaipirivu, Onnipalayam Road, Arivoli Nagar, Chinnamaddampalayam, Maddampalayam, Selvapuram, Shanthimedu, Bharathi Nagar, Samanaickenpalayam Road, and Kannarpalayam Road.
Sellappampalayam Locality: Mooperipalayam, Thattampudur, and Naranapuram.
Officials have urged residents in the affected areas to plan accordingly and cooperate with the maintenance teams. Power supply is expected to resume promptly once the works are completed.
Power Shutdown Precautions
With scheduled power shutdowns set to affect parts of Chennai and Coimbatore for maintenance work, authorities and civic agencies have urged residents to take necessary precautions and plan their day accordingly.
Citizens are advised to charge mobile phones, power banks, and essential devices in advance to ensure uninterrupted communication. Emergency lights or candles should be kept ready, and sensitive electronic appliances unplugged to avoid damage from sudden voltage fluctuations once power resumes. Residents should also store adequate drinking water and avoid opening refrigerators frequently to retain cooling.
With electricity unavailable for several hours, families are encouraged to spend time meaningfully. Reading, journaling, board games, and mindful activities like sketching or decluttering are suggested to stay engaged.
