Chief Justice Of Delhi HC Reacts To Cash Pile Recovery At Judge Yashwant Varma's Home
Delhi High Court Justice Yashwant Varma's court did not convene on Friday, following allegations of a massive cash seizure at his residence.

Justice Yashwant Varma News: The controversy surrounding the alleged recovery of a large amount of cash from the residence of Delhi High Court judge Yashwant Varma has deepened further. Delhi High Court Chief Justice D K Upadhyay on Friday said that this incident had shaken everyone.
Senior lawyers have urged the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court to take action in the matter. According to legal news website PTI, Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya, said "everybody" was pained by the incident. "We are conscious [of the matter]," he said.
The matter was mentioned by Justice Upadhyaya by senior advocate Arun Bharadwaj. He said: "Today’s incident has pained many of us. Please take some steps on the administrative side so that such incidents don’t happen in future," he said.
Justice Yashwant Varma did not hold court today. The 'Court Master' stated that the bench was "on leave".
How Cash Was Recovered At Justice Yashwant Varma's Home
Justice Yashwant Varma came under fire after the discovery of a large pile of cash at his home during a fire. When the fire broke out at his home, the family informed the fire brigade and the police about it.
During the investigation of the cause of the fire, fire brigade officials and police reportedly found a large amount of cash in a room. The information was passed on to the Union Home Ministry.
After the matter came to the fore, a collegium led by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna decided to transfer Varma to Allahabad HC. The collegium said that it may take more action later after a probe is completed as a mere transfer would not be sufficient. Varma could even be asked to step down.
What Did The Lawyers Say In Court?
Senior Advocate Arun Bharadwaj approached the bench of Chief Justice Upadhyay and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela and urged them to take action to prevent such incidents in the future.
He said, "We hold the system in high regard. Every judge is highly respected. We are shaken and disheartened. Please take some steps. I am expressing the pain of many of my brothers. Please take some steps to ensure that such incidents do not happen."
