‘Can Destroy Politics of Hindutva': Rahul Praises Telangana Caste Survey; Revanth Calls PM Modi 'Converted OBC'

Rahul Gandhi lauded Telangana's caste survey as a milestone for social justice, expecting it to influence national enumeration.

Praising the caste survey in Telangana, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi called it a milestone for social justice in the country and said it will define the national caste enumeration. Addressing the Socio-Economic Survey Model and Methodology Presentation in the national capital, Gandhi said, "Revanth Reddy and other leaders of the Congress party exceeded my expectations very easily. Not only did they conduct the Caste Census in the spirit that it should have been done... I can say with certainty that the level of competence with which they have done it is a milestone for social justice in the country.”

He added that the Telangana government will use the data of the census to transform the lives of the people of Telangana. He also reiterated that removing the 50 per cent reservation mark in the education and job sectors and alleged that the government of India is not allowing it to happen in Telangana.

"Why are they stopping it? We have said it clearly that we will break the 50 per cent wall of reservation. The government of Telangana has said in a note to the President of India that we want to break the 50 per cent barrier in education and government jobs, and we want to break the 50 per cent barrier in Panchayati Raj and the government of India is saying no and they are not allowing it. So our job is to raise it in parliament and help Revanth Reddy push the idea, push the breaking of this wall, and his job is to make sure that the people of Telangana benefit from the caste census," the Leader of Opposition said.

He also admitted that in the last 10-15 years, the party fell short of taking care of the challenges faced by OBCs, and this opened up the space to the BJP. Rahul also said that in the last 10-15 years, the party fell short of taking care of the challenges faced by OBCs, and this opened up the space to the BJP.

"No other state in India today has the ability to target development the way Telangana has. It is a social tool, it is also a financial and economic tool. What the BJP does not like is that it is also a political tool. The idea of breaking the 50 per cent wall on reservations, that the government of India is opposing, has the ability to destroy completely the politics of Hindutva," he said.

“…I have the feeling that we allowed, we opened the space for the BJP, because we were not responsive to the aspirations, desires of the OBC people. That is what I feel,” the former Congress chief added, as quoted by news agency PTI.

Meanwhile, Telangana CM Revanth Reddy said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not an OBC by birth, and he is a legally converted OBC.

“Congress, and Gandhi family are not like this. Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi sacrificed themselves for the country,” Reddy said, as quoted by news agency PTI.
