British Woman Raped By Man She Befriended On Instagram In Delhi's Mahipalpur

A British woman came to Delhi to meet a man she befriended on Instagram and was allegedly raped by him at a Delhi hotel.

A British woman was allegedly raped by a man at a hotel in south Delhi's Mahipalpur. She had befriended the man on Instagram and had come to Delhi to meet him. The accused, identified as Kailash, has been arrested by the Delhi Police.

According to the Delhi Police, the woman was also molested by another man named Wasim, who is said to be Kailash's friend. Police have arrested him as well on charges of molestation.  

According to a report by NDTV, the woman had come to India for a vacation in Goa and Maharashtra. She called Kailash and asked him to join her on her holiday. However, he refused saying he could not travel and instead asked her to come to Delhi to meet him.

The woman arrived in the national capital on Tuesday and checked in at a hotel in Mahipalpur. She then called the accused, who arrived at the hotel with his friend. The three of them had dinner together and consumed alcohol before heading to her room in the hotel. She was then allegedly raped by the man that night. 

The victim approached the Vasant Kunj police station in south Delhi the next morning and registered a complaint. Following guidelines, the police informed the British High Commission about the incident and are providing assistance to the UK national as well, the report said.

Kailash is a resident of Vasundhara in East Delhi's Mayur Vihar and had contacted the woman, a London resident, through the social media platform.

"A man was arrested on charges of rape with a British woman in a Mahipalpur hotel in Delhi. His accomplice was arrested on charges of molestation," Delhi police said in a statement.

"The woman who was friends with the man through social media had come to Delhi from the UK to meet him. The information about the incident has also been given to the British High Commission," cops said.

The incident comes days after  a tourist from Israel and another woman were allegedly raped by three men in Karnataka's Koppal, sparking outrage. The accused had also pushed a male friend of the women into the Tungabhadra River canal when he tried to save her from them. He drowned saving the woman. All three have been arrested.
