BMC Removes 'Patchwork' On Mumbai Coastal Road After Viral Video Sparks Row
The project includes multi-level interchanges at critical intersections such as Haji Ali, Peddar Road (Amarsons Garden) and Worli Sea Face. The Haji Ali interchange has eight vehicle arms.

Mumbai News: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has started removing the mastic coating on the Rs 14,000-crore Mumbai Coastal Road project after facing criticism from commuters, who called it a patchwork. People shared videos from the road and criticised the BMC.
The civic body clarified the additional mastic layer seen on the Haji Ali stretch in the viral visuals does not signify construction defects. "This work is being carried out at a fast pace. Once the coating is removed, fresh bitumen resurfacing will be completed within the next one to two days," an official said.
A user called the work "beyond disappointing" and added, "Mumbai’s ₹14000 crore Coastal Road already looks like patchwork. I feel betrayed—this was supposed to be world-class infrastructure. L&T and BMC must be held accountable. Is this what we paid for?"
New Stretch Of Mumbai Coastal Road Project Inaugurated
A new stretch of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP) connecting Haji Ali Juice Centre to Marine Drive was made open to the public this month. The new stretch allows vehicles to enter the coastal route directly on the high-speed connector's southbound carriageway.
Earlier, the southbound traffic would enter the coastal road via the Worli interchange or the Amarsons interchange.
The project includes multi-level interchanges at critical intersections such as Haji Ali, Peddar Road (Amarsons Garden) and Worli Sea Face. The Haji Ali interchange has eight vehicle arms, the Amarson and Worli interchanges have four and five arms, respectively.
