Bihar Weather: Heavy rainfall in Purnea, Bhagalpur, Madhepura; IMD Issues Thunderstorm Alert For 12 Districts
Bihar continues to experience light to moderate rainfall due to the lingering southwest monsoon. The rainfall is expected to continue until Dussehra, with a gradual decline in temperatures thereafter.
Bihar Weather: As the southwest monsoon withdraws from many parts of India, it continues to linger over Bihar, bringing light to moderate rainfall across the state. Heavy rainfall has been recorded in some areas, and the skies are expected to remain cloudy until Dussehra, with further rainfall likely in many districts.
Thunderstorm Warnings In 12 Districts
On Saturday, the India Meteorological Department in Patna issued a yellow alert for rainfall in Bhojpur district, with light to moderate showers expected in various parts of the state, including capital Patna. Twelve districts in eastern Bihar — Bhagalpur, Munger, Banka, Jamui, Lakhisarai, Kishanganj, Purnia, Araria, Katihar, Supaul, Saharsa, and Madhepura — were likely to experience light to moderate rainfall Saturday. Additionally, a thunderstorm warning was also issued for some areas within these districts.
The weather conditions are being influenced by a trough line extending from northeast Uttar Pradesh through Bihar to sub-Himalayan West Bengal, at an altitude of 0.9 km above ground level. Coupled with the effects of upper air circulation over southwest Bangladesh and nearby areas, a low-pressure system has formed over the northern Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal regions. This is resulting in moist winds blowing over Bihar, contributing to the ongoing rainfall.
The weather office has indicated that the southwest monsoon is expected to withdraw from Bihar a day or two after Dussehra, accompanied by a gradual decline in temperatures across the state.
Heavy Rainfall Recorded In Several Districts
On Friday, light to moderate rainfall was recorded in many districts, while heavy downpours were observed in three areas. Purnea recorded the highest rainfall, with 80.4 mm, followed by Bhagalpur with 76.2 mm, and Madhepura with 65.8 mm. Other districts, such as Siwan (52.2 mm), Nalanda (51.6 mm), and Gaya (50.2 mm), also experienced significant rainfall. Light showers were reported in West Champaran, East Champaran, and Buxar.
Despite the persistent rainfall, temperatures across Bihar have remained relatively stable. Patna saw a slight decrease in temperature, dropping by 0.1°C to 33.2°C. Sitamarhi recorded the highest temperature in the state at 35.8°C, while Kishanganj had the lowest maximum temperature at 29.5°C. The state’s average temperature has been hovering around 33°C.
