Bihar Teacher Asks Class 12 Student To Be His Girlfriend As 'Honorarium', Cites Ekalavya To Convince Her

A teacher in Bihar, Vikas Kumar, has been accused of asking a female student to become his girlfriend. The girl has filed a complaint with the school authorities.

A controversy has erupted in a school in Bihar after a teacher at a school asked a girl student to become his "girlfriend" as "honorarium".

As per the details, no police case has been filed despite the girl complaining to the school, NDTV reported. While the school authorities have complained to the state Education Department, however, no action has been taken against the teacher yet.

The teacher, who made the indecent demand, has been identified as Vikas Kumar, who teaches at Kisan High School in Kisanganj district. He had called up the student of Class 12 and harassed her multiple times. The girl has alleged that the teacher even proposed that the two of them will go to Siliguri, and made vulgar suggestions.

The girl further alleged that the teacher gave the example of Mahabharat's archer Ekalavya, who had parted with the thumb of his right hand to please his Guru, Dronacharya, whom he considered his teacher. "Why can't his student follow this example and become his girlfriend, he had questioned", the girl said.

Taking the action on the indecent proposal, the girl informed her teachers and made a formal complaint against him at the school. As per the sources, reported by NDTV, the teacher had even made similar propositions to a woman teacher of the school to whom he is now married.

Now that a complaint was filed, headmaster Shafiq Ahmed informed the District Education Office. However, the Education Office took no action other than calling for an explanation from Vikar Kumar.

The teacher has not replied to the allegations. Commenting on this matter, the District Magistrate said that they are investigating the matter and then action will be taken accordingly.

A few days back, a professor from a university in West Bengal has come under scrutiny after a video of her “marrying” a student in a classroom went viral on January 28. She has offered to resign citing her inability to continue her association with the varsity.

In the purported video clip of the senior professor, head of the Department of Applied Psychology at the state-run Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), is seen performing Hindu Bengali marriage rituals with a first-year student of her department inside a classroom, which created a commotion.

The professor, however, maintained that the video was part of a psycho-drama project, enacted with the consent of students and the university. She further alleged that a colleague had deliberately leaked a selective portion of the play to malign her reputation and derail her career. Asserting that her social and academic standing had been unfairly damaged, she stated that she would take legal action to seek redress.
