Bihar: 65-Year-Old Woman Dragged Out Of Home And 'Gangraped' By 4 Men For Refusing To Give Cigarettes, 2 Held

When the elderly woman refused to give them the cigarettes, the four men broke into her house, dragged her to a nearby field, and allegedly committed the crime. Two accused have been arrested.

A 65-year-old woman was allegedly gangraped by four men after she turned down their demand for cigarettes. The woman owns a betel shop and the accused, who were reportedly drunk, had gone to her house asking for cigarettes past midnight in Bihar’s Lakhisarai district, police said on Friday.

Two of the accused have been arrested, while a manhunt has been launched to nab two others, news agency PTI reported.

The incident took place on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday when the four of them went to the woman's house for cigarettes in Nawabganj area. When the elderly woman refused to give them the cigarettes, they broke into her house, dragged her to a nearby field, and allegedly committed the crime, Lakhisarai SP Ajay Kumar told PTI.

"On the basis of statements of her family members, a case was immediately registered… and two accused persons were arrested on Thursday. Search is on to trace the other two," he said.

The 65-year-old victim has been admitted to a government hospital for treatment.

The incident was reported to the police by the woman's family members, following which the police immediately swung into action, arresting two of the accused on Thursday morning.

SP Ajay Kumar told the Times Of India that the family had reported about the incident at around 1 AM on Wednesday night. They told the police that the four men had come to their house asking for cigarettes. When the woman refused, they started banging the door. When they did not stop, the elderly woman's daughter-in-law and husband escaped from the back gate of the house. The 65-year-old could not escape due to her old age and stayed back.

Around 1:30 AM, the miscreants jumped over the wall and entered the house's courtyard. They broke the door and then dragged the elderly woman to a field, where they committed the crime. She screamed for help while she was being dragged by the miscreants, but no one came to her rescue, TOI reported.

The report also says that the accused also looted some cash kept inside the house. Another son of the woman, who lives in a house some distance away, dialed 112 to inform the police about the incident.

"Raids are being carried out to nab the other two. All the accused are from the same village. This is a very serious and disturbing incident. We will do everything possible to ensure that the accused get severe punishment," SP Kumar told TOI.
