Odisha: Goods Train Derails At Bhubaneswar Station, Fourth Incident In 7 Days

Two goods train wagons derailed near Bhubaneswar station, Odisha. No casualties were reported as the train was moving slowly. The cause of the derailment is being investigated.

Two wagons of a goods train headed to Angul derailed near Bhubaneswar railway station in Odisha on Friday. East Coast Railway's Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), HS Bajwa, reported no casualties and confirmed that one wagon had been re-railed with the second expected to be re-railed soon.

"One wagon has already been re-railed and the second wagon will hopefully be re-railed within one or one and a half hours... There were no casualties as the train was moving very slowly. We are assessing the reason for the derailment but there is no major damage or anything," the official said, ANI reported.

He added that the derailment took place in the Bhubaneswar station yard, allowing them to manage the coach traffic effectively. 

"It's basically in the Bhubaneswar station yard only. The train derailed; it was a goods train that was going towards the Angul side. Two wagons got derailed. It's in the yard; our two lines, up and down lines, are free and so, we are able to manage the coaching traffic," he said, as quoted by ANI.

Goods Trains Derailed In 7 Days

Previously, on July 21, a guard bogie of a goods train derailed in the goods ward of Ranaghat in the Nadia district of West Bengal during internal shunting. In addition, a freight train traveling from Alwar Goods Station to Rewari in Rajasthan derailed on the Mathura track at around 2:30 AM on the same day.

On July 20, at least seven coaches of a goods train derailed between the Ghaziabad and Moradabad sections in Uttar Pradesh. The incident took place at 5 PM between Ghaziabad and Moradabad section, right after it crossed the Amroha railway station, Moradabad Division's Senior Deputy Commercial Manager (DCM) Aditya Gupta told news agency PTI. 

Fortunately, nobody was injured in the latest accident which is the fourth such incident in 7 days. However, fifteen trains have been either cancelled or diverted after the incident at Amroha Yard disrupted train movement on the route.
