Bengaluru Techie Goes For Wedding, Finds Rs 40-Lakh Items Stolen After Home Robbed
The stolen items include Rs 24 lakh in cash, gold earrings and necklaces, pearl and silver necklaces and silver coins weighing around 1.5 kg.

A 54-year-old software engineer from Bengaluru's Kathriguppe returned from a wedding trip to find his home ransacked, with burglars having stolen valuables worth Rs 37.8 lakh. The break-in is suspected to have been meticulously planned, with the perpetrators disabling security systems before looting the premises.
Vishwanath SD, a resident of 4th Block, Kathriguppe in Banashankari Stage III, told police that he and his wife had left for Chikkamagaluru around 12:45 pm on May 21 to attend a family wedding. When they returned late the next evening, around 11:15 pm on May 22, they were shocked to find the house broken into.
The couple discovered the doors to their first-floor rooms wide open, with cupboards and lockers forced open and household items scattered across the floor.
CCTV Disabled After Burglars Enter Via Terrace
According to Vishwanath’s complaint, the burglars are believed to have gained entry through the terrace door on the third floor, which was found open. CCTV footage reportedly shows the intruders entering the house around 8:15 pm on May 21. They immediately tampered with the security system, turning the CCTV camera to face a wall before continuing their operation.
The stolen items include Rs 24 lakh in cash, gold earrings and necklaces, pearl and silver necklaces and silver coins weighing around 1.5 kg.
Police Probe On
Police have registered a case and visited the residence to gather evidence. Forensic teams have lifted fingerprints, and officers are analysing surveillance footage from nearby areas to trace the culprits.
The burglary adds to a spate of similar incidents targeting homes left unattended during weddings and holidays. Police have advised residents to alert neighbours or local authorities when leaving homes vacant for extended periods.
