A cooker blast in Bengaluru claimed one life and injured another. The incident occurred while the occupants were cooking rice. Police ruled out foul play, citing a cooking mishap.
At least one person died and another was injured in an explosion, that was allegedly caused by a cooker blast, at their residence in Bengaluru's Puttenahalli area. According to police, the incident occurred on Tuesday while the occupants of the house were cooking rice.
Nothing suspicious was found and it was just a cooking mishap, the police said according to a report by PTI.
"Two men staying in a house on the terrace of a building were preparing rice in a cooker when the lid of the vessel blew up resulting in burn injuries to both of them. The two were rushed to a hospital where one of them succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday morning while the other person is under treatment," a senior police officer told PTI.
The official said experts were consulted and a detailed investigation was done and there was no chemical or any suspicious object found.
It was an incident of a cooking mishap, police said adding both the injured men are from Uttar Pradesh.
The intensity of the explosion was such that it scattered household items, according to a report by India Today.
"We have thoroughly checked and ruled out the use of explosives. It was a pressure cooker blast. The injured men are barbers. We have examined the investigation materials this morning and found no evidence of mischief. NIA officials are here to conduct a cross-examination," the IT report said quoting a senior official.
The NIA team reportedly reached Bengaluru on Wednesday morning and is working in coordination with the local police to determine the cause of the blast and assess the damage.
Earlier this year, an IED blast happened at the famous Rameshwaram Cafe in Bengaluru's Brookefield area, in which at least 10 people were injured.
