BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi’s ‘Mini Bangladesh’ Remark Sparks Uproar In Assam Assembly, Oppn Demands Motion
Trivedi, participating in a discussion in the Upper House, had called Dhubri district a 'mini Bangladesh' and claimed that the opposition refuses to accept the NRC due to electoral considerations.

Guwahati, Mar 21 (PTI): Opposition MLAs on Friday demanded that a motion be moved in the Assam assembly condemning BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi for referring to Dhubri district as 'mini Bangladesh' while speaking in Rajya Sabha.
Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia of the Congress raised the demand for the motion.
"He has insulted the entire state of Assam. Dhubri is a land of many freedom fighters and luminaries in different fields. Our Assembly should adopt a motion condemning Trivedi's remark and inform the Parliament about it," he said.
Trivedi, participating in a discussion in the Upper House, had called Dhubri district a 'mini Bangladesh' and claimed that the opposition refuses to accept the NRC due to electoral considerations.
He pointed that Congress’ Rakibul Hussain had won the last Lok Sabha election from Dhubri with a margin of over 10 lakh votes.
Saikia also refuted Trivedi’s assertion during the same speech in the Rajya Sabha that the Congress was not accepting the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
He maintained that it is the government which is yet to notify the updated NRC for the state.
"He has made misleading statements. How can we tolerate it? The assembly must adopt a motion against him," Saikia said.
AIUDF legislator Rafiqul Islam supported the demand saying, "Does the government consider Dhubri a part of Assam? If so, the assembly should adopt a resolution against Trivedi." Though Speaker Biswajit Daimary initially said he would place his views, the matter remained inconclusive as the proceedings moved on.
