Another Monsoon Death In Delhi Claims 15-Year-Old Boy's Life In Chanakyapuri

A 15-year-old boy, Sourabh, drowned in a flooded street in Delhi's Chanakyapuri area due to heavy rain. The incident occurred near the British School when the victim was playing with his friends.

A 15-year-old boy has drowned in the Chanakyapuri area of Delhi. This incident occurred at around noon when the capital received heavy rain. The boy was playing on a flooded street and was suddenly swept away by the strong current of the water. The body of the minor was found at some distance from the area where he was playing.

According to a Lokmat Times report, the place of occurrence of the incident was near the British School. The victim has been identified as Sourabh, who lived in Chanakyapuri's Vivekananda Camp. Police said that he was playing with his friends when the floodwater swept him away. His friends then alerted his family. He was rescued and rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Monsoon Drownings Plague Delhi

The fatal incident comes just four days after a seven-year-old, Prince Kumar, died after falling in an open drain in Delhi's Wazirpur area. The body was fished out later that evening. Residents of the area said that the drain where the accident occurred had been cleaned about 8-10 days ago. But the six-foot-deep drain was left uncovered by sanitation workers.

Almost 36 hours after the tragedy, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) acknowledged that the drain was under its jurisdiction and said that the agency planned to cover it, reported news website Hindustan Times.

Prince had left his home around 5:30 AM that day, initially going to a nearby public washroom to bathe before returning home. Shortly after, he left again to play but unfortunately slipped into the uncovered drain while walking along the street in front of his house. Since the incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, there was no one around to witness it, and the boy was only found after hours of searching by the community.

Another such incident occurred three weeks earlier, on July 31, when a woman and her son drowned in a waterlogged drain in Ghazipur. Following that incident, the MCD and the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) engaged in a blame game.
