After Plastic In Idli, Karnataka Now Finds Artificial Colours In Fried Green Peas 'Unsafe'
Out of 31 samples of fried green peas tested so far, 26 were found to be unsafe due to the presence of artificial colours, many of which are carcinogenic and pose serious health risks.

The Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration has declared fried green peas unsafe for consumption after tests detected harmful artificial colours in a majority of the samples collected. The findings are part of the state’s ongoing drive to ensure food safety and quality across Karnataka.
Out of 31 samples of fried green peas tested so far, 26 were found to be unsafe due to the presence of artificial colours, many of which are carcinogenic and pose serious health risks, as per a report on Deccan Herald. Only five samples met safety standards. A total of 106 samples were collected, and the analysis of the remaining samples is still underway. State Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao announced the findings on Friday, emphasising the government’s commitment to cracking down on food adulteration, reported News 18.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Health Minister also announced plans to introduce stricter regulations for tattoo parlours to enhance safety standards. The state government also intends to seek the Centre’s intervention in formulating guidelines for the tattoo industry.
The decision follows recent findings by the Food Safety Department, which detected 22 types of metals in tattoo ink samples, as per a report on ANI. Authorities have raised concerns that these substances could pose significant health risks, including skin infections and exposure to harmful heavy metals.
'Idlis Pose Health Risk'
This discovery comes on the heels of another alarming investigation by the Karnataka Food Safety Department, which found that idlis served in Bengaluru may also pose health risks. Out of 500 samples collected from 251 hotels and roadside vendors, 51 were declared unsafe. Tests revealed the presence of carcinogenic substances, raising concerns about the long-term health impacts on consumers.
The findings have sparked widespread concern among residents with many calling for stricter enforcement of food safety regulations.
