Zepto Sees Record High Order Volume Of 750,000 On 3rd Anniversary

Zepto clocked peak order volume with 750,000 orders on July 15, 2024, media reports said. The quick commerce firm witnessed its highest order volume day on the occasion of its third anniversary, the reports said citing sources in the know.
A report by Moneycontrol said that the firm saw a 25 per cent increase in its order volume against the daily average of 600,000 orders in the last month. The report noted that the company provided special offers to the customers on the anniversary, however, the impact of these concessions was borne by multiple brands operating on the platform.
The gross merchandise value (GMV) of sales on the occasion stood between Rs 30 crore to Rs 40 crore, while the gross margin for the quick commerce firm improved by 100 basis points, the report said citing sources.
On the other hand, Zepto’s major competition, Blinkit, recorded a daily average order volume of over 725,000 orders in the January-March quarter. Blinkit, operated by Zomato, clocked a daily average GMW of Rs 44.7 crore in the reviewing quarter.

Currently, Zepto operates about 370 dark stores, out of which 15 per cent are new, the report said citing sources in the know. Aout 85 per cent of the old stores of the company have achieved store-level profitability in the last two months, the sources revealed. Further, the firm expects to increase its dark store count by double from 350 to more than 700 by March 2025.
Quoting an earlier research note by analysts at JM Financial, the report said, “Zepto, in fact, is fast emerging as the dark horse; it appears to have gained meaningful share over the last 1 year despite having no background of running an operationally intensive B2C business, unlike its competitors.”
The company plans to target the top 50-75 million households in the top 40 cities in the country as they account for a majority share in the daily essential purchases of the nation.
