upGrad Announces Additions To upGrad Institute's Advisory Board In Singapore

The board is expected to provide insights on upGrad’s growth and help take forwards the goal of building a strong learning institution

Edtech firm upGrad announced the additions to the advisory board of its upGrad Institute on Monday. The firm stated that it has appointed seven prominent leaders from the industry to the board. The upGrad Institute is a government approved private education institution in Singapore. 

According to a report by PTI, the board is expected to provide insights on upGrad’s growth and help take forwards the goal of building a strong learning institution. 

Prof. Arnoud De Meyer, ex-president of Singapore Management University, has joined the board as its Chairman. The company chose Prof S Sadagopan, chairman, BoG, IIITDM-Kancheepuram, and founder director, IIIT-Bangalore for his extensive experience in academia and education. 

The company has selected the board members from different backgrounds, to help enhance focus on skilling and job outcomes, it said. Other members include Magdalene Ew, head of content, entertainment, Southeast Asia, Taiwan and Hong Kong, Warner Bros. Discovery; Jeremy Williams, managing director of PropertyGuru Marketplaces; Laura Parsons, vice-president, human resources, BBC Studios; Larry Bradley, chief executive officer of SolasAI, and Mohit Nayyar, vice-president, human resources, global skin and personal care, P&G.

The institute will be focused on growing in such a way that it enhances the global workforce and educates them with an “industry-ready experiential curriculum”, the firm added. “Together, this diverse and accomplished board will play a crucial role in upGrad's endeavours to shape and grow Asia’s higher education and skilling landscape,” it noted via the press release. 

The upGrad Institute has seen an inflow of about $5 million from its parent company and is expected to start its first batch in the next two months. Currently, its inviting applications for its debut doctorate programmes, in addition to some skilling courses in data science and management, with major global universities. 

Talking about the firm’s commitment to establishing and upscaling the institute, upGrad co-founder and chairperson, Ronnie Screwvala, said, “These latest appointments not just reassure our commitment but also power our ambition of rewriting the global skilling landscape.”
