Stock Market Closes Strong: Sensex Surges 540 Points, Nifty Tops 25,200

The Indian stock market ended on a strong note Wednesday, with benchmark indices rebounding sharply after a subdued previous session. The BSE Sensex surged 540.09 points, or 0.66 per cent, to close at an indicative level of 82,726.90. Similarly, the NSE Nifty climbed 159.00 points, or 0.63 per cent, to settle at 25,219.90. Positive cues from global markets and renewed investor optimism contributed to the broad-based rally across sectors.

Market breadth remained slightly negative, with 1,882 stocks advancing, 1,989 declining, and 161 remaining unchanged. On the Nifty, top gainers included Tata Motors, Shriram Finance, Bharti Airtel, Apollo Hospitals, and Bajaj Finance. On the flip side, Tata Consumer, Hindustan Unilever (HUL), Bharat Electronics, UltraTech Cement, and Grasim Industries were among the major laggards.

The BSE Midcap index edged up by 0.24 per cent, while the Smallcap index ended largely unchanged.

Sectorally, the realty index saw the steepest decline, falling 2.6 per cent, followed by the media index, down 1 per cent, and the FMCG index, which slipped 0.5 per cent. In contrast, sectors such as auto, metals, oil & gas, consumer durables, pharmaceuticals, private banks, PSU banks, and telecom posted gains between 0.5 per cent and 1 per cent.

Ashika Institutional Equities noted, "The Indian stock market commenced today’s session on a distinctly positive trajectory, with the Nifty opening at 25,139 before briefly dipping to a low of 25,085 and subsequently rallying to touch an intraday high of 25,188. The day was characterized by robust performance across key sectors such as Banking, Financial Services, Automobiles, Healthcare, and Information Technology. In contrast, pockets of weakness persisted in Realty, Media, Consumer Goods, and Metals, reflecting a sectorally bifurcated landscape.

On Tuesday, the Indian stock market ended on a muted note, with benchmark indices recording slight losses in a volatile session. The BSE Sensex closed at 82,186.87, slipping 13.47 points or 0.02 per cent. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty declined by 24.50 points, or 0.10 per cent, to settle at 25,066.20. Market movements remained constrained within a narrow range as investors adopted a cautious stance, awaiting fresh cues from global economic trends and the upcoming domestic earnings season.
