Indian chess grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa shared his parents' joy upon receiving an electric car gift from the Chairperson of Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra, on Tuesday on X (formerly Twitter). He posted pictures of his family with the vehicle and expressed gratitude to the business tycoon, garnering widespread appreciation. "Received XUV 400. My parents are very happy. Thank you very much, Anand Mahindra, sir", Praggnanandhaa wrote in his post on X.
Interestingly, in 2023, a widely circulated photograph captured the proud moment of R Praggnanandhaa's mother gazing at her son. This heartfelt moment occurred after the chess prodigy secured a place in the finals of the FIDE World Cup held in Baku, Azerbaijan. At that moment, Anand Mahindra reposted the image on X and added, "Maa, tujhe Salaam (Mother, salute to you)." In reply, a user suggested, "Sir, he also deserves Mahindra's Thar!" noting Anand Mahindra's tendency to gift cars to athletes for their exceptional achievements.
The businessman responded to the X user's comment, expressing his preference to gift R Praggnanandhaa's parents an electric car and elaborating on his reasoning behind this choice.
"Appreciate your sentiment, Krishlay, & many, like you, have been urging me to gift a Thar to R Praggnanandhaa. But I have another idea. I would like to encourage parents to introduce their children to chess & support them as they pursue this cerebral game (despite the surge in popularity of video games!). It's an investment in a better future for our planet, just like EVs. And so, I think we should gift an XUV4OO EV to the parents of Praggnanandhaa. Shrimati Nagalakshmi & Shri Rameshbabu, who deserve our gratitude for nurturing their son's passion & for giving him their untiring support," He wrote in a tweet in August.
