UIDAI Extends Free Aadhaar Update Deadline To THIS Date; Step-By-step Guide To Update Documents

UIDAI has urged Aadhaar number holders, particularly those who obtained their Aadhaar more than a decade ago and have never updated it since, to take advantage of this opportunity

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the deadline for free online document updation until June 14, 2026. This facility allows citizens to update their Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA) documents free of cost, but only through the myAadhaar portal.

Announcing the extension via a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), UIDAI stated: “UIDAI extends free online document upload facility till 14th June 2026; to benefit millions of Aadhaar Number Holders. This free service is available only on myAadhaar portal. UIDAI has been encouraging people to keep documents updated in their Aadhaar.”

Who Should Update Their Aadhaar Details?

UIDAI has urged Aadhaar number holders, particularly those who obtained their Aadhaar more than a decade ago and have never updated it since, to take advantage of this opportunity. Individuals who have experienced changes in their name, address, or other demographic details due to marriage, relocation, or other reasons are especially encouraged to update their records.

Still A Fee For In-Person Updates

While online document uploads are free through the myAadhaar portal, visits to physical Aadhaar Enrollment/Update Centers still attract a nominal fee. Previously, even the online update process involved a charge of Rs 50, which has now been waived to promote better data hygiene in the Aadhaar ecosystem.

What Is Not Covered Under the Free Update?

It is important to note that updates related to mobile number, email, biometrics (fingerprints, iris), or photograph still require a visit to a physical Aadhaar center and are not covered under the free online service.

Step-by-Step Guide to Update Aadhaar Documents Online

  1. Visit https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in
  2. Log in using your Aadhaar number and OTP sent to your registered mobile number
  3. Review your demographic details and click ‘I verify that the above details are correct’
  4. Select and upload identity and address documents (max 2MB; JPEG, PNG, or PDF format)
  5. Submit your consent and download the acknowledgement receipt for reference

This free document update service will remain available until June 14, 2026. After this date, regular fees may apply for online document updates. UIDAI continues to urge citizens to keep their Aadhaar records accurate and up to date to ensure seamless access to government and financial services.
