EPFO Rolls Out Self-Service Option For Members To Change Personal Information; Check Details
EPFO members with e-KYC accounts can now file their EPF transfer claims online using Aadhaar OTP, eliminating the need for employer intervention

The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced a new feature allowing its members to update personal details such as their name and date of birth online, without requiring employer verification or approval from the EPFO, according to a report by PTI on Saturday.
Additionally, EPFO members with e-KYC accounts can now file their EPF transfer claims online using Aadhaar OTP, eliminating the need for employer intervention.
Union Minister for Labour and Employment, Mansukh Mandaviya, stated that 27 per cent of problems filed by members are related to profile or KYC issues. He expects this number to decrease with the introduction of the new online facility.
The Minister also mentioned that EPFO has simplified the process for submitting joint declarations on its portal. This enhancement enables employees to independently correct most personal details, such as name, date of birth, gender, nationality, parents' names, marital status, spouse's name, and dates of joining and leaving, without external intervention.
Previously, errors made by employers in recording details such as the father’s or spouse's name, marital status, nationality, and service information during the registration process had to be corrected through an online request accompanied by supporting documents.
This request would then require verification by the employer before being forwarded to the EPFO for approval, according to the report.
Eligibility Criteria
The new facility on the EPFO website will be available to members whose Universal Account Number (UAN) was issued after October 1, 2017. In such cases, no supporting documents are required, according to the Union Minister, as reported by the news agency.
For members with a UAN issued before October 1, 2017, employers can make corrections without the need for EPFO approval. The requirement for supporting documents in these cases has also been simplified.
If the UAN is not linked to Aadhaar, any corrections must be submitted physically to the employer, who will verify the details before forwarding them to the EPFO for approval, as per the agency's guidelines.
