Maruti Sales Zoom 14 Per Cent In November. Tata, Mahindra, Hyundai See Sharp Rise In Sales
Major car manufacturers such as Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Hyundai Motor India posted sharp sales increases of 21 per cent, 56 per cent, and 36 per cent, respectively
Indian carmakers clocked a sharp rise in sales in November. The country's largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India, logged a 14 per cent increase in total wholesales at 1,59,044 units in November. While other major car manufacturers like Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Hyundai Motor India posted sharp sales increases of 21 per cent, 56 per cent, and 36 per cent, respectively.
On Thursday, multiple Indian auto companies reported their monthly sales. Maruti Suzuki India said it had dispatched 1,59,044 units in November this year compared to 1,39,184 units in November 2021.
Last month, Maruti's domestic sales rose 18 per cent to 1,39,306 units as against 1,17,791 units in November 2021. Sales of mini cars, comprising the Alto and S-Presso, increased to 18,251 units as compared with 17,473 in the same month last year. Sales in the compact segment, including models such as the Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno and Dzire, also rose to 72,844 units as against 57,019 cars in November 2021. The Ciaz’s sales increased to 1,554 units as compared with 1,089 units in November last year.
The company said that exports declined to 19,738 units as against 21,393 units in the corresponding month last year.
Tata Motors reported a total wholesale increase of 21 per cent to 75,478 units in November this year as compared to 62,192 units in November 2021. The auto major said that in the domestic market its total sales stood at 73,467 units last month as compared to 58,073 units in the same period last month, up 27 per cent.
It added that the company’s commercial vehicle sales in the domestic market fell 10 per cent to 29,053 units, from 32,245 units in November 2021. The company's total passenger vehicle sales rose 55 per cent to 46,037 units as against 29,778 units in the year-ago period, last month.
Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) in a regulatory filing reported a 56 per cent rise in domestic passenger vehicle sales at 30,392 units in November 2022 compared to 19,458 units in the same month last year.
The company sold 30,238 units of utility vehicles as against 19,384 units in the year-ago month, up 56 per cent. Sales of cars and vans were higher at 154 units as compared to 74 units in the same month last year. M&M said its total commercial vehicle sales were at 19,591 units last month. The company said total tractor sales grew 10 per cent at 30,528 units. Domestic tractor sales were at 29,180 units a growth of 12 per cent.
Mahindra & Mahindra President of Automotive Division Veejay Nakra said the growth in November sales was on the back of robust demand across the company's product portfolio. He said, “The supply chain situation continues to be dynamic due to continuing international disruptions. We are keeping a close watch and are taking appropriate steps.”
Hyundai Motor India also reported a 36 per cent increase in total sales at 64,004 units for November 2022 compared to 46,910 units in the same month last year. The company statement said that the domestic sales were up 30 per cent to 48,003 units as against 37,001 units in November last year. Exports increased 61 per cent to 16,001 units as compared with 9,909 units in the year-ago period.
