Tech Layoffs: Google Fires Hundreds Of Employees From Advertising Sales Team

Last week, Google said that the company will lay off several employees in its Voice Assistant units, hardware teams responsible for Pixel, Nest and Fitbit, as well as in its augmented reality team

US-based tech giant Google has announced another round of fresh layoff of hundreds of its employees in its advertising sales team on Tuesday. These roles are primarily from the Large Customer Sales (LCS) team, which caters to large businesses. These layoffs will be implemented globally by the company.

Google's customer solutions unit, which serves medium-level advertiser clients, will be the core team for growth moving forward, the company said, reported the Business Insider.

Last week, the tech mammoth said that the company will lay off several employees in its Voice Assistant units, hardware teams responsible for Pixel, Nest and Fitbit, as well as in its augmented reality team and now they have added the sales team as well in the list. As the company looks to adopt artificial intelligence software and automation, there is a possibility of further layoffs in the coming months.

However, these layoffs are not limited to just one tech giant. Last week, Amazon also said it would lay off several hundred employees from its streaming and studio operations and 500 workers at its video streaming platform, Twitch. In addition, the company has reportedly instructed its managers to evaluate employees' performance, which further indicates towards additional job cuts based on performance reviews of the employees.

Meanwhile, a recent restructuring at Meta affected 60 workers, mostly in technical program manager (TPM) positions around the company. This action, which was taken this week, according to sources quoted by Business Insider, indicates a slow phase-out of the TPM role. Now, impacted workers must make a challenging decision: either reapply and go through a new interview process for program manager positions or risk having their jobs terminated in March.

On January 11, the popular messaging application Discord announced a 17 per cent reduction in its workforce. This layoff affected approximately 170 employees across various departments, and the company cited over-hiring as the main reason for this difficult step.
