After Airtel & Vi, Reliance Jio Hikes Telecom Tariffs By 20%. Revised Rates To Be Effective From Dec 1

The new unlimited plans will go live on December 1, 2021, and can be opted from all existing touchpoints and channels, Reliance Jio stated

Mumbai: After Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea, billionaire Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio has increased the telecom tariffs by about 20 percent with effect from December 1, a move likely to impact almost half of India's mobile phone users.

"In line with its commitment to further strengthen a sustainable telecom industry, where every Indian is empowered with a true digital life, Jio today announced its new unlimited plans. These plans will provide the best value in the industry. Upholding the Jio promise of providing the best-quality service at the lowest price globally, Jio customers will continue to be the biggest beneficiaries," said Reliance Jio in a statement.

Reliance Jio's cheapest plan has been increased from Rs 75 to 91, offering 3 GB of data per month, unlimited voice calls, 50 SMS with a validity for 28 days.

Reliance Jio's costliest plan has been increased from Rs 2399 to Rs 2879, offering 2GB of data per day, unlimited voice, and 100 SMS per day with a validity of 365 days.

The new unlimited plans will go live on December 1, 2021, and can be opted from all existing touchpoints and channels, said the statement.

Vodafone and Bharti Airtel have also increased their tariff rates last week, a move seen as positive for the telecom sector, as Indian consumers enjoy one of the cheapest call rates and data plans globally.

Reliance Jio last month launched the Jio Phone Next with a downpayment of Rs 1999 to migrate the millions of feature phone users to smartphones.

The Jio Phone Next was launched after Reliance Jio lost over 19 million wireless subscribers in September, dragging its gross user base down to 424.83 million, reflecting the massive clean-up of low-paying customers.
