Tata Punch vs Nexon: Which SUV Proves To Be More Value For Money? Check Detailed Comparison

The Punch is priced between Rs 5.49 lakh to Rs 9 lakh. The Nexon meanwhile is Rs 7.28 lakh to Rs 13.23 lakh.

The Punch from Tata has made SUVs a lot more affordable with a starting price above the Rs 5 lakh mark. But when it comes to the top-end trims should you consider the Punch or are the differences big enough to buy its bigger brother, the Nexon instead. The Nexon has been one of the best-selling subcompact SUVs but the smaller/cheaper Punch might seem more value for money or is it?

Looks

Both are aggressive-looking SUVs and good looking too. The Nexon is bigger than the Punch and is easily seen but the difference is not huge in terms of sheer length. Both get 16inch alloys and signature Tata design elements but the Punch has a more youthful look with more funky colours. The Punch front end has a more aggressive look like the Harrier where the headlamps and DRLs are split. The Nexon is more mature in its looks with a traditional front-end but the rear styling has a proper SUV look while the Punch looks more like a hatchback from the rear.

Interiors

The interiors have some common bits between them while also being different in many ways. Both have a three-spoke steering wheel but the Nexon has a premium black finish but there is nothing much to choose from in terms of the touchscreen or the white insert all around. The Nexon interiors feel a touch more premium though. In terms of features the more expensive Nexon obviously has more but the Punch is not that far behind.

The Punch has more than enough features like climate control, a rearview camera, connected car tech (optional), cruise control, and more. The Nexon does add in a fully digital instrument cluster, sunroof, and rear AC vents, etc. Space is good in both the SUVs while the Punch has actually a larger boot than the Nexon!

Engines

The biggest difference between the two is in terms of the powertrains as the Nexon offers you more powerful engines in form of a 1.5l diesel and a 1.2l turbo petrol unit with 120PS and 170Nm. There is either a 6-speed manual on offer or an AMT. The Punch meanwhile has a 5-speed AMT/manual on offer but the engine is limited to a 1.2l motor with 86hp/113Nm. The Punch is more efficient though with a mileage of 18kmpl plus while the Nexon is 16kmpl for the petrol. Both have the good ground clearance to tackle our bad roads with ease though.

Prices

The Punch is priced between Rs 5.49 lakh to Rs 9 lakh. The Nexon meanwhile is Rs 7.28 lakh to Rs 13.23 lakh. Hence it clearly means that the Punch is much cheaper and more value but the Nexon is clearly for those who want more power/features. The extra price reflects that for sure. The Punch makes sense if you are looking for an SUV on a budget while the Nexon is our choice if you can stretch it.
