Voice Assisted Sunroof, Wireless Charging And More: First Look Review Of Tata Altroz iCNG
While the Altroz would be the first premium hatchback with CNG to get a sunroof, it would be not alone in this segment with the Baleno/Glanza already there.
Tata Motors is aggressively expandings its CNG line-up and now it will launch the Altroz in a CNG avatar. This premium hatchback will get an iCNG variant while the car was also shown at the Auto Expo 2023 which gave us a chance to see it in the flesh. With diesel losing steam in the sub-15 lakh space, the talking point here is the popularity of CNG cars in the hatchback space.
The Altroz CNG is an interesting addition too. Interestingly, to remove the basic issue of a CNG car, Tata Motors have added an innovative way where there is a dual CNG cylinder set-up within the boot floor rather than taking up all of the boot space. There are twin cylinders each with a 30 litre capacity and done in a way not to remove the practicality. Although one issue is the lack of a spare wheel as instead the Altroz CNG will get a puncture repair kit. The engine on offer will be the 1.2l three cylinder petrol while in CNG form the power at hand is 77hp and 97Nm.
A standard 5-speed manual gearbox would be there while we do not expect an automatic to be offered. Efficiency is very important and here we can expect a figure near 27km/kg for the Altroz CNG. Plus there is a direct start option in CNG mode too instead of petrol first all the time. Safety features include thermal incident protection, gas leak detection feature and micro switch to ensure the car is switched off at the time of refuelling. If we talk about variants then the iCNG will come with four trim options- XE, XM+, XZ and XZ+ and in four colour options — Opera Blue, Downtown Red, Arcade Grey and Avenue White.
The feature list is interesting as the Altroz will also now get a sunroof! Yes, the equipment list would include climate control with rear AC, wireless charging, leatherette seats, iRA connected car technology, cruise control, automatic headlamps plus a voice assisted sunroof. While the Altroz would be the first premium hatchback with CNG to get a sunroof, it would be not alone in this segment with the Baleno/Glanza already there. Bookings have started and prices would be around Rs 1 lakh more than the petrol Altroz.
