Maruti knows the hatchback market better than just about anyone else and for 2022, they have quite a few products in store for us. It all starts with the new Baleno which is due for launch soon and the big new launch of the Alto in a completely new form.

We will start with the new Baleno and it is the first big facelift for the popular premium hatchback. The new Baleno will come with a new look front/rear styling which will make it sharper now. There would also be new headlamps and DRLs along with tail-lamps getting a new look.

Even the bumpers are changed. The bigger change would be on the inside with a new interior along with a bigger touchscreen with vents on the side. The interior design would be changed with a more premium look while the 9 inch touchscreen is also all new.

The dials would be new too along with a steering wheel design like the Swift. The new Baleno will get connected technology and climate control/auto headlamps, wireless smartphone connectivity etc. The 1.2l petrols including a mild hybrid option will stay on as will the CVT/manual gearbox.

The other big launch is the Alto which has been one of its strongest sellers. The new Alto would be based on the Heartect platform which would make it safer, lighter and also better to drive.

The new Alto would also be bigger in size plus have a longer wheelbase. The styling on the outside will also be completely new with a more SUV like design. The interiors would be a big change as well vs the current dated Alto.

More features like a touchscreen are expected. The new Alto would get the new Celerio engine and the older three cylinder unit along with AMT/manual transmission choices. The new Alto would come in later in 2022 towards the second half.
