MG Motor Starts Delivering Astor SUV In India On Diwali, 5000 Units To Be Delivered By December

MG Motor India, which recently has entered the competitive midsize SUV segment with Astor, has delivered 500 units on Dhanteras, the first day of the auspicious Diwali festival.

We recently drove the MG Astor and this new compact SUV was recently launched at a price of Rs 9.78 lakh (ex-showroom). Upon starting bookings, the initial first batch of cars were sold out in India within 20 minutes. On the occasion of Dhanteras, the car-maker delivered more than 500 vehicles. The number could have been higher had it not been for the chip shortage which is, of course, affecting other car-makers too. MG now plans to deliver about 4,000 to 5,000 units by December end 2021.

The Astor has been launched with two petrol engine options with the entry-level model having a 1.5l petrol with 108bhp/144Nm while there is also a more powerful 1.3l turbo petrol with 138bhp/220Nm. The 1.3l turbo petrol unit gets a 6-speed torque converter automatic as standard while the 1.5l petrol has either a manual gearbox or a CVT automatic.

With the Astor there are nine variants and five colour options while the feature list includes a personal AI assistant and Autonomous (Level 2) technology amongst other features like a 10.1inch touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, an air purifier, panoramic sunroof, 17inch alloys, connected car technology bundled with subscriptions/services etc. The Astor also comes with a digital key which is where you can start the car without the physical key using Bluetooth, incase you lose the physical key. Bookings for the Astor are now open for 2022 delivery for now. The Astor is slotted below the Hector in India and is the fourth new product from MG in India while rivalling the likes of the Hyun
