ABP Live Auto Awards 2022 – Entry Level Car Of The Year: Alto K10 in its new avatar, their best-seller has been heavily updated and is armed with a much more efficient engine.
One of the toughest jobs in the automotive industry is to be a good entry-level small car where buyers have a lot of expectations. The cars need to be modern, well equipped yet also affordable and fuel efficient. In terms of small cars, Maruti Suzuki is very much a leader with many of its cars occupying the top of the sales charts.
However, with the Alto K10 in its new avatar, their best-seller has been heavily updated and is armed with a much more efficient engine. Yet, cars are not just about efficiency, and amongst other entry-level cars, the K10 impressed us with its spirited performance along with its light controls. It is easy to drive and park while also being quick with a rev-happy petrol engine.
The new engine performs both city and highway tasks quite admirably for such a small car and you get good visibility too. The light manual gearbox also has a slick gearshift. That said, for the convenience factor, the Alto K10 also comes with an AMT gearbox which again works very well as a city automatic car. At low speeds, it behaves like a proper automatic mostly while having better efficiency than a conventional torque converter auto. Speaking of which, the new Alto K10 has a mileage of 25 kmpl and the real-world figures are also close to that.
These days, features are important regardless of the fact that it is your first car or not. The new K10 has a touchscreen now with smartphone connectivity while the interior design is also refreshing. Even the exterior has a premium factor which we liked.
For its size, the new Alto K10 packs in a huge amount of space along with the ability to handle our roads like much larger cars while the efficiency impresses too. These factors make it a worthy winner.
