2023 Kia Carens 1.5 Turbo DCT Review: Fast Family Car With A Pricing Edge

This engine makes the Carens the fastest MPV with 160hp and 253Nm of torque which gives you way more power than its traditional rivals.

The Carens has been a big success for Kia in India and it was also the first model for them to get the new 1.5l turbo petrol which has also now made its way into the Seltos. This engine makes the Carens the fastest MPV with 160hp and 253Nm of torque which gives you way more power than its traditional rivals. Available with an iMT clutchless manual and a DCT dual clutch automatic, the Carens is now faster and while you can get it with a diesel plus a 1.5l naturally aspirated petrol, this is the engine to have in terms of power.

Now does a family three row MPV need so much power? Yes, because with six passengers and luggage, the Carens has effortless performance and feels quick. Compared to the earlier 1.4 turbo petrol, the new 1.5l is much smoother and has more performance.

Power is served up in an instant but tuned in a linear manner. Refinement is excellent and at low speeds, the Carens is smooth and sets new standards in its class for refinement and power. Performance is all there and the DCT gearbox is also less jerky and offers pretty seamless shifts in standard mode.

The DCT automatic also brings in paddle shifters plus there are drive modes with eco or normal being comfortable enough for everyday use.

Sport is when you are in the mood for more performance but the normal suits the Carens more. Clearly the new engine offers a more relaxed driving experience with instant overtaking ability along with being the perfect choice for long trips. The DCT also felt smooth at low speeds and the light steering also meant that it is easier to drive.

The Carens does not feel like a MPV and that is its highlight as it is fun to drive with its new turbo petrol. Plus compared to the earlier engine, there is better efficiency as well.
