Rangbhari Ekadashi 2024: History

As per mythology, Lord Shiva brought Goddess Parvati to Kashi after marriage and applied gulal on her. Hence, this day is known as Rangbhari Ekadashi, celebrated with great enthusiasm in Varanasi. It is believed that Holi officially begins from this day.

This day holds special significance for devotees of Lord Shiva as on this day, Lord Bholenath plays Holi with ashes and is known as 'Masaane Ki Holi'.

How to perform the worship of Lord Shiva on Rangbhari Ekadashi:

  • Offer water to Lord Shiva.
  • Apply vermilion, gulal, sandalwood, and bilva leaves on the Shiva Linga.
  • Apply sandalwood paste and offer bilva leaves and water.
  • Finally, offer vermilion and gulal and pray.

Relation Of Rangbhari Ekadashi With Amla:

On this day, Amla is specifically used for worship. That's why it's also called Amlaki Ekadashi. On Amla Ekadashi, you can attain the blessings of both Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu.
