The fast culminates with their husbands feeding them a morsel of food and a sip of water. Therefore, the moon sighting holds significant importance in the Karwa Chauth observance.

Karwa Chauth, also referred to as Karaka Chaturthi or Karva Chauth, is an annual Hindu festival that marks the Chaturthi of Krishna Paksha in the Hindu month of Kartik. While this celebration maintains a uniform date across India, regions like Gujarat, Maharashtra, and South India, following the Amant calendar, observe Karva Chauth during the month of Ashwin. In 2023, this revered occasion falls on November 1st. On Karwa Chauth, married women partake in a nirjala vrat, fasting from dawn until the moonrise, praying for the longevity of their husbands. They abstain from both food and water throughout the day, concluding their fast after moon worship and the offering of Arghya. The fast culminates with their husbands feeding them a morsel of food and a sip of water. Therefore, the moon sighting holds significant importance in the Karwa Chauth observance.

Karwa Chauth is one of the most prominent festivals for Hindus, during which married women undertake a nirjala fast from sunrise to sunset, beseeching Chauth Mata or Goddess Gauri for the well-being of their husbands. In some regions, unmarried women also participate in this fast, seeking to find their desired life partners. This day is celebrated with immense joy and fervor across the nation.

According to Drik Panchang, Karwa Chauth in 2023 is scheduled for November 1, with the puja muhurat ranging from 5:36 am to 6:54 pm. The Chaturthi Tithi begins on October 31 at 9:30 pm and concludes on November 1 at 9:19 pm. The fasting period lasts from 6:33 am to 8:15 pm, with the moonrise anticipated at 8:15 pm on the same day.
