Chaitra Navratri, a nine-day festival celebrated from the first day of the bright fortnight of the month of Chaitra until the ninth day, is a time for fasting and worship. This year, the fasting and worship of Navratri will occur from April 9th to April 17th. The auspicious period for Kalash establishment will last for approximately four hours in the morning, starting from the night of April 8th at 11:50 PM.

Tips For A Positive Chaitra Navratri:

Here are some tips for a positive Chaitra Navratri

  • Avoiding Debt During Navratri

Do not buy new items on loan during Navratri. Purchasing items on debt, whether it's new clothes, electronics, or other goods, can invite negative energy into your life. It is suggested that acquiring items through loans, whether from a bank or acquaintance, can lead to a burdened mind and heart, compromising the positive energy within the household. Therefore, it's important to refrain from taking on loans during Navratri to maintain positivity.

  • Recommended Rituals For Conducting Puja During Navratri

Kalash Establishment: Take a bath in the morning during the auspicious time of Kalash establishment, which is from 6:02 AM to 10:15 AM. If you cannot establish the Kalash during this time, you can also do it during the auspicious time of Abhijit, from 12:00 PM to 12:45 PM. Meditate on Lord Ganesh in the temple of the house before tying Mauli to the copper pot in a swastika shape. Fill the pot with water mixed with a few drops of Ganga water, and add a coin, incense, betel nut, perfume, and rice. Finally, light the eternal flame of Maa Durga.

Sowing Barley Seeds: Alongside the Kalash establishment, put soil in a clay vessel and sow barley seeds in it. Those fasting during Navratri should continue with their regular diet.

By following these simple guidelines and avoiding debt, individuals can infuse their Navratri celebrations with positivity and blessings.

Religious Beliefs Of Navratri:

  • On the first day of Navaratri, Kalash Sthapana is performed, where a red-coloured Kalash is prepared. It is considered a symbol of the arrival of the goddess. On the ninth day of Navaratri, which is called Navami, nine young girls, symboliing the nine forms of the goddess, are invited into the house for worship. Most people perform this worship on the eighth day, known as Ashtami.
  • During Navratri, barley seeds are also sown in the house. It is believed that barley was the first crop at the beginning of creation, also referred to as the 'complete crop'. Barley sowing during Navaratri holds significance. The growth of barley during the nine days indicates future prospects.
  • If barley grows rapidly, it is believed that the household will prosper under the blessings of Goddess Durga. Straight and white growth of barley is considered auspicious. If barley doesn't grow well or grows unevenly, it is considered inauspicious. Blackish or uneven growth of barley is also deemed inauspicious.
  • If the colour of barley is yellow from the bottom and green from the top, it is believed that the beginning of the year will be unfavorable. Conversely, if the colour of barley is green from the bottom and yellow from the top, the beginning of the year will be favourable, although there might be troubles later on.
  • During Navratri, if a coconut kept for worship in the household temple develops a crack, it is believed that Goddess Durga is extremely pleased with the worship being conducted in that household.
