Andhra Pradesh: Rs 4.76 Crore Seized From Private Bus In West Godavari District

Seven passengers, including the bus driver and cleaner, have been detained for questioning

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh police seized Rs 4.76 crore from a private bus plying without valid documents in the West Godavari district on Friday.

During regular vehicle checks at the Veeravalli toll plaza in Nalljarla Mandal, police found a large sum of money in the luggage carrier under a private travel operator's bus seat.

According to sources, the bus belongs to Padmavati Travels and it was travelling from Vizianagaram to Guntur. Along with the cash, the police also found 350 grammes of gold.

Seven passengers, including the bus driver and cleaner, have been detained for questioning. The travellers carrying cash and gold were unable to present the necessary documentation, police said.

This incident comes after a recent cash confiscation in the Kurnool district. On March 24, the Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) seized Rs 1.25 crore in cash from a private bus in Panchalingala, near the Andhra Pradesh-Telangana border.

Earlier, on March 6, SEB personnel confiscated gold, silver, and cash worth Rs 5 crore from five passengers riding in a private bus at the same checkpoint.

The SEB recovered 8.250 kilogrammes of gold, 28.5 kilogrammes of silver, and cash from Tamil Nadu travellers that time.
