Trump to pardon Turkey next week

Washington [United States], November 18 (ANI): United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday will exercise his pardoning powers on two turkeys given the time-honoured tradition.

Putting presidential Turkey pardon to use, Trump will pardon the two birds handpicked by the National Turkey Federation in the White House Rose Garden.

"After the pardoning, the turkeys will join last year's turkeys at Virginia Tech's 'Gobblers Rest' exhibit, where students and veterinarians care for the turkeys, and the public can visit and learn about the university's teaching, research and outreach programs in animal and poultry sciences and veterinary medicine," the White House statement said.

It's the 70th anniversary of the turkey presentation.

The turkey pardon tradition began during the Harry Truman administration.

According to the reports, former US President Obama was fond of telling pun-laden jokes at the event.

In 2016, at his last turkey pardon, Obama said at the ceremony that he planned to keep pardoning turkeys, even without cameras present. (ANI)
