PTI officially names Imran Khan as PM candidate

Islamabad [Pakistan], August 6 (ANI): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has officially been nominated as their candidate for the next Prime Minister of the country as well as the parliamentary leader of their parliamentary committee.

In the party meeting, PTI vice-chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi put forth the resolution to nominate Imran as the PTI's formal candidate and the resolution was accepted unanimously by the party members, reported Geo News.

Following the nomination, Imran Khan talked about his early days at the party before discussing his own struggles as well as achievements.

Continuing his speech, the PTI chairman said that finding the solution to the country's issues and economic crisis is his priority.

"The country is in an economic crisis and we need to steer it out of it. We will approach overseas Pakistanis for repayment of debts," Geo News quoted Khan, as saying.

Imran further requested the party members to save the money of the country so that it could be used towards public welfare.

However, the decision on cabinet members is yet to be taken.

"The final decision on cabinet members will be taken by Imran Khan himself,"the Dawn quoted a senior party leader, as saying.

The PTI emerged as the single largest party with 116 seats, after the ECP on July 28 released the complete preliminary results for 270 of 272 National Assembly (NA) constituencies.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) which won 64 seats came second, while the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) bagged 43 seats and finished third.

Pakistan went to polls on July 25 and the counting of votes began soon thereafter in the evening, which was marred by tedious counting and allegations of rigging by major political parties, including the PML-N and PPP. (ANI)
