President Trump unveils his first national security strategy

Washington DC [United States], Dec 19 (ANI): United States President Donald Trump on Monday released his first national security strategy.

The White House published a 55-page document that envisions confrontations with "revisionist" powers like Russia and China, who are posing challenges to the United States and are seeking to change the global status quo, often to harm the America's interests.

Russia and China are two countries, "attempting to erode American security and prosperity" and are "determined to make economies less free and less fair, to grow their militaries, and to control information and data to repress their societies and expand their influence," the strategy document said.

The new strategy also reduced the importance of climate change, which was a centerpiece of American foreign policy during former president Barack Obama's tenure.

However, the U.S. would be committed in dealing with the North Korea's nuclear programme and it would be cooperating with its allies and partners in curbing North's nuclear reach, to counter Iran's role in the Middle East and to stop "jihadist terrorists" operating worldwide.

The roll out of the national security strategy is the first major step by the Trump administration at forming a comprehensive strategy on the president's 'America First' worldview.

"We will promote a balance of power that favors the United States, our allies, and our partners," the document noted. "We will never lose sight of our values and their capacity to inspire, uplift, and renew. Most of all, we will serve the American people and uphold their right to a government that prioritizes their security, their prosperity, and their interests". (ANI)
