Khawaja Asif to challenge disqualification verdict in SC

Lahore (Pakistan), May 2 [ANI]: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Khawaja Asif will challenge his disqualification verdict in the Supreme Court on Wednesday.

He said he hopes for justice from the apex court.

"If I am not able to contest the elections then someone else will contest it in my place," he said, adding, "I have served people since last 28 years," Geo News quoted as saying.

On April 27, Khawaja Asif was disqualified by the Islamabad High Court (IHC), under Article 62 (1)(f) of the Constitution, for failing to disclose his employment and the monthly salary that he was receiving from a UAE based company.

The three bench members unanimously ruled that Asif was not qualified to contest the 2013 general election from NA-110 as he did not fulfill the conditions described under Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution, the report further said.

Later, the Supreme Court disqualified the then-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and PTI leader Jahangir Tareen in July and December last year, respectively, for the same.

Recently, the apex court ruled that parliamentarians disqualified over the clause will be ineligible to contest elections or hold party office for life. (ANI)
