India, Bhutan recall historical ties of friendship

New Delhi [India], Nov. 2 (ANI): The King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, who is on a four-day visit to India along with his Queen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck and son, Prince Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck, recalled the historical ties of friendship between India and Bhutan.

Earlier today, the Bhutanese King met President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who hosted a dinner in honour of the King and the Queen.

Also, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj called on the King of Bhutan.

Both the leaders exchanged views on bilateral cooperation as well as other issues of mutual interest. They recalled the unique and historical ties of friendship and understanding that exist between the two countries.

The Bhutanese King and Prime Minister Modi expressed satisfaction at the excellent state of bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to advance these exemplary relations across diverse sectors of cooperation.The King conveyed appreciation for the invaluable support that the Government of India provides for Bhutan's socio-economic development.

The two sides showed their agreement to celebrate the golden jubilee of the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between the two countries in a befitting manner in the year 2018.

The President of India extended an invitation to the King and Queen of Bhutan to pay a state visit to India during the golden jubilee year, which was accepted by the visiting dignitaries.

The meetings were held in a very warm and cordial atmosphere, reflecting the spirit of mutual trust and understanding that characterise the exceptionally friendly ties between the two countries.

The visit of Bhutanese King and Queen to India marks an important milestone in the close and friendly relations between the two countries and has contributed significantly towards further strengthening the profound friendship between India and Bhutan. (ANI)
