A cultural coupe of Indian classical dance performances for Delhi

New Delhi [India], Dec 3 (ANI): Delhi, here's your chance to satiate your cultural appetite with a two-day festival that will see classical dance performances from noted artists.

Organised by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in collaboration with Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth (Spic Macay), the event that kick-started on Saturday at Nehru Park aims to preserve and promote the cultural identity of India.

AAI Chairman Dr Guruprasad Mohapatra said, "The Airport Authority of India, which is mandated with the responsibility of managing the aviation infrastructure in the country, is also deeply committed towards nurturing the culture of India and as a part of that we feel that our Airports should also reflect the local culture, local heritage and local ethos of the state and the country."

On the first evening, the audiences were mesmerised by enthralling performances of the noted 'Kuchipudi' dancers and Padma Bhushan winners Raja and Radha Reddy.

They were later joined on stage by dancers Yamini and Bhavna Reddy, who showcased various tales from Hindu Mythology with their performances.

Underscoring the significance of the Indian classical dance Bharat Natyam, Dr Raja Reddy stated, "Natyam'(Dance) provides a unified forum for the universal enlightenment and that is the greatness of 'Bharat Natyam'."

This was soon followed by 'Kathak' performances by dance group of 'Padma Vibhushan' Pandit Birju Maharaj.

Dancers from all age groups mesmerised the audiences by presenting tales from Lord Krishna's Vrindavan days.

Pandit Birju Maharaj spoke to the audience regarding different kinds of rhythms and also himself gave a performance.

The second day of the event will see noted classical musicians, including Sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and vocal artist Pt Rajan and Sajan Mishra, enthralling the audiences. (ANI)
