Why does power become more important than people? | Ghanti Bajao

Jyotiraditya Scindia resigned from Indian National Congress and joined Bharatiya Janata Party. With this Congress lost an important leader. But with his resignation came 22 other resignations. And with this step of MLAs from Scindia's camp, it seems Congress will lose Madhya Pradesh too
Now both BJP and Congress are trying to gain the power which is readily available to the one who will grab it via horse-trading. The question here is why so much effort for power rather than people and their needs?
